Tracy Tabler

Executive Director

Tracy Tabler has devoted her entire, professional career to senior care, working as a practicing geriatric nurse for more than 20 years before taking on multiple leadership roles within our community, including tenures as Director of Nursing, Director of Health & Wellness, and most recently, Executive Director, a post she took over in 2019.

A native of Meyersdale, PA, Tracy attended the Greater Johnstown (PA) Vocational Technical School and earned a practical nursing degree in 2002. With a wealth of experience and compassion for resident seniors and their families, Tracy now leads and inspires the Discovery Commons family through a lasting commitment to teamwork and attentive care and service.

Outside of work, Tracy is a proud mother of three adult children and has three grandchildren. She resides in Southern Maryland with her husband Tony, and enjoys watching college football and socializing at their local Moose Organization. An avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, she has a French Bulldog named “Saban”.

Shana Smith

Senior Lifestyle Counselor

Shana Smith is a 20-year veteran of the healthcare industry whose experience includes 12 years as a senior lifestyle and care advisor. A proud graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Shana earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English Lit with a minor in Sociology. During that time, she also began her career journey, paying her way through college by working as a Medication Technician and Caregiver.

Originally from Cheverly, Maryland, Shana graduated from La Plata High School
and throughout her professional career, has worked alongside seniors and families at the local, regional and national levels, fulfilling advisory duties in all aspects of senior living and care. Outside of work, Shana is happily married and enjoys volunteer work and spending off times with her three dogs, Bella, Brewster and Buddy.

Dawn Garzone

Director of Culinary Services

Director of Culinary Services Dawn Garzone is a well-traveled expert in high-volume, premium-quality entrees, and desserts. Her love for cooking began as far back as 1972 when she used to share her Grandmother’s kitchen. As a young adult, she worked in private catering, and at the urging of her family, she began her formal, culinary training in 1995 at Stratford University (Falls Church, VA).

Ever passionate about her craft, Dawn has excelled in specialized catering, exhibition cooking, as well as served as a private chef for many ambassadors in the Washington, DC area. Dawn has also cooked on behalf of prominent colleges and institutions, as well as the U.S. Secret Service, Comptroller of Currency, United States Congress, Office of Personnel Management, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), among others. Dawn has also honed her skills at European-style bakeries where she learned how to make “sponge,” a dough used in Artisan baking. Now a proud member of our team, Dawn is eager to provide unique and wide-ranging culinary offerings for our residents, as well as to work alongside seniors and fellow team members to explore new recipes and menu items.

Outside of working hours, Dawn enjoys photography, looking for shark teeth at the beach, recreational baking, and creating items for her online boutique. She is also an avid concert photographer whose work has been published in online outlets.
