Tracy Tabler

Executive Director

Tracy Tabler has devoted her entire, professional career to senior care, working as a practicing geriatric nurse for more than 20 years before taking on multiple leadership roles within our community, including tenures as Director of Nursing, Director of Health & Wellness, and most recently, Executive Director, a post she took over in 2019.

A native of Meyersdale, PA, Tracy attended the Greater Johnstown (PA) Vocational Technical School and earned a practical nursing degree in 2002. With a wealth of experience and compassion for resident seniors and their families, Tracy now leads and inspires the Discovery Commons family through a lasting commitment to teamwork and attentive care and service.

Outside of work, Tracy is a proud mother of three adult children and has three grandchildren. She resides in Southern Maryland with her husband Tony, and enjoys watching college football and socializing at their local Moose Organization. An avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, she has a French Bulldog named “Saban”.

Shana Smith

Senior Lifestyle Coordinator

Shana Smith is a 20-year veteran of the healthcare industry whose experience includes 12 years as a senior lifestyle and care advisor. A proud graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Shana earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English Lit with a minor in Sociology. During that time, she also began her career journey, paying her way through college by working as a Medication Technician and Caregiver.

Originally from Cheverly, Maryland, Shana graduated from La Plata High School
and throughout her professional career, has worked alongside seniors and families at the local, regional and national levels, fulfilling advisory duties in all aspects of senior living and care. Outside of work, Shana is happily married and enjoys volunteer work and spending off times with her three dogs, Bella, Brewster and Buddy. 

Nicki Daniels

Director of Health and Wellness

Director of Health and Wellness Nicki Daniels brings more than 10 years of leadership and care experience to her role at Discovery Commons. In 2009, she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) diploma from the College of Southern Maryland and has since worked as a direct caregiver and charge nurse. She holds professional certifications in Staff Development and Infection Prevention. Ever passionate about education, she will earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana State University in December 2021.

Nicki has delivered presentations regarding elder care to health care practitioners, seniors and families and works diligently to build a coalition between other, community-based agencies to improve Dementia care in the tri-county region. In her current role, Nicki aims to promote excellence in care and drive continuous improvement by fostering teamwork and accountability. With core values including integrity and effective communication, Nicki is focused on ensuring high-quality, empathetic care and nurturing transparent relationships between care providers and residents and their families.
